Just How Easy Is It?

Joomla Demo Site

If you check out the demo in the "Try Before You Buy" you will see the control panel of the system. Which at first glance may seem intimidating.

Here's the basics:

Sections and Categories     Think of your web site as a newspaper in the sense that your web pages are setup in sections and categories. i.e A newspaper may have a "Sports" section and several categories below that section titled "baseball", "football", "hockey" and "local sports". Joomla works the same way, you create a section then create category(s) in that section. We provide you with sections and categories relevant to your particular line of work or field.

Article = Web Page
You compose an article in the "content section". Articles can be images, text, movies, flash files or any combination. You will use a WYSIWYG (pronounced wizzy-wig - "what you see is what you get") editor. The editor is like Microsoft Word or any decent email composer. See the image below for an actual screenshot of this article.

Once your article looks the way you want, you simply choose a section and category and whether it is to be shown on the front page.

Menus and Links
The menu links are extremely flexible, you can have a link that shows an entire category or section or any combination of sections and categories. You can link directly to web pages (articles), components (i.e. your contact form page), you can link to an external URL web address, and much more.

We explain these options and help you get started in terms anyone can understand.

Layout:

The layout of the site can be seen in the administration area under "Site/Preview/In-Line with Positions" Now what this page is showing you is all the available positions in which you can publish modules for that particular template. The templates we use generally have 9-18 different positions to publish modules. Each template has a different layout.

What's a module?

Modules can:

  • be a small stand alone applications such as a "weather module or clock module" there are 100's to choose from.
  • be a user module that you create, using your WYSIWYG editor add text, images. EXAMPLES:  the "Hot New Designs" , "What does a CMS do for Me" and "Mono Slideshow" modules on the Applied CMS homepage.
  • add functionality to components EXAMPLE: the "Monthly Coupons" on the Applied CMS homepage is a module that is included with the Letterman email component.
  • be published in any position on any page.

We show you how to get the most out of modules.

So once the web page (article) is created, you control whether there are modules on that particular page. So a page can be "full size" or the page can be positioned with modules on the left or right, top or bottom, in any combination.

Once you understand those basic concepts the rest falls into place.

With every jPackage, we set you up...

  • with a gorgeous template modified with your logo and color scheme,
  • properly configured global settings, and
  • teach what you need to do to update your site in layman's terms.
  • help you with tech support along the way
